Vision

At Holme Junior and Infant School, we are guided by our core values of being aspirational, adventurous, creative, resilient, respectful, and independent. These values shape our vision for English education and our commitment to nurturing well-rounded, confident individuals who are equipped with the English skills to thrive.

Aspirational: Our English programme is designed to inspire ambition and set high expectations for our learners. We encourage our pupils to aim high and provide them with the tools and support they need to reach their aspirations. We write for a purpose ensuring our writing is meaningful.

Adventurous: From delving into rich books to exploring with a range of writing styles. We encourage our pupils to embrace the challenge of discovering and adapting to different genres. We foster a sense of curiosity and a willingness to take risks in not only their writing but also reading choices, encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones and explore the adventure of literature.

Creative: English is where creativity comes to life. We promote creativity through exploration. We believe that English provides our children with the opportunity to be truly creative. We encourage writing to be different and for children to explore their own brilliant ideas. In reading, we encourage our learners to step into another world and immerse themselves within a book.

Resilient: We teach our pupils the importance of resilience and persistence in the face of challenges and through our writing editing process, encouraging our learners to know that our first piece is never perfect. We believe that making mistakes is a valuable part of the learning process, and we encourage our pupils to keep going, adapt and grow.

Respectful: We teach our pupils to approach a variety of texts and the characters, cultures and diversity they find with respect. We value collaboration, communication, sharing of good ideas as part of our English process. We see the value in speaking and listening to aid our English learning.

Independent: We empower our pupils to become independent thinkers and follow their own ideas. We provide them with the skills and knowledge to experiment on their own, instilling confidence in their abilities and adapting this to their own work.

Our vision is to cultivate readers and writers who are not only proficient in the English skills required in future life but to have a love for English. Through these values, we aspire to equip our pupils with the confidence and competence necessary to excel moving forward into the next stages of their lives.
